SCREAMING EAGLE REGIMENT
The Screaming Eagle Regiment is the marching band component of our program. All of our instrumental music students are required to participate in the Screaming Eagle Regiment as it is the ensemble school and program culture is introduced and developed. It is our most visible ensemble and acts as a major ambassador for our school across the state and around our community. With around 100-120 students, this ensemble participates at football games, concerts, parades, and various marching competitions and evaluations.
The Wind Symphony is our premier concert band here at South Lake High School. This ensemble is made up of 50-60 students, who excel at their instrument, as determined through audition. This ensemble performs a wide range of musical pedagogy from the military band tradition, orchestral transcriptions, standard wind band literature, and modern interpretive pieces. This ensemble also participates in several concerts per year in our 700-seat performing arts center, and around our local community, including in the newly-constructed Lake David Park Amphitheater Stage in Downtown Groveland. Our Wind Symphony also incorporates three separate chamber ensembles, including Woodwind Choir, Brass Choir, and Percussion Ensemble. These smaller ensembles are also sometimes featured during our public performances.
The Jazz Ensemble is our premier jazz band here at South Lake High School. This ensemble is made up of around 25-30 students, who excel at their instrument, as determined through audition. This ensemble performs a wide range of jazz band appropriate pedagogy, including ragtime, swing, big band, bebop, Latin styles, rock, funk, and various other modern styles. This ensemble also participates in several concerts per year in our 700-seat performing arts center, and around our local community, including in the newly-constructed Lake David Park Amphitheater Stage in Downtown Groveland. Our Jazz Ensemble also incorporated several smaller Jazz Combo ensembles, which are sometimes featured in our public performances.
CObalt GUARD ENSemBLE
Our Cobalt Guard Ensemble is made up of students in grades 9 through 12 who participate as guard members with our Screaming Eagle Regiment. They continue into the Winter and Spring months as a separate ensemble to further hone their skills and develop a show to be performed in gymnasiums. This ensemble performs at various competitions and evaluations throughout our area, and the throughout the state of Florida.
We will now be offering a beginning band class at the high school level for students who would like to learn to play an instrument. Or, for those who are already in band that would like to learn a secondary instrument, they may take the class as well. This ensemble will perform twice during the year as a featured part of our concerts. The instruments we will be including are: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Guitar, and Percussion. If you are interested in joining this class, please contact Mr. Wright.
Students in our program have several opportunities to participate in local and state Honor Bands. Click below for more information regarding All-State and local honor bands.
