Ryan F. Wright, Director of Bands
Mr. Ryan F. Wright is the Director of Bands at South Lake High School, in Groveland, Florida. Mr. Wright holds a Master of Science in Music Education from Troy University, a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Rollins College, and an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from the College of Central Florida. He has studied percussion under Beth Gottlieb, Danny Gottlieb, and Dr. Andy Harnsberger. Mr. Wright was previously a director at East Ridge High School and Dunnellon High School. His other professional experiences over the last twenty years include instructing, composing, arranging, and designing for more than thirty schools, throughout Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Mr. Wright has performed professionally as a drummer for the McDonald's Worldwide convention, as a percussionist with the Southern Winds, the Hernando Symphony Orchestra, and various freelance work for other professional groups and recording studios. He has worked with Magic of Orlando Drum and Bugle Corps, Heat Wave of Florida Drum and Bugle Corps, Brahma Percussion from USF, Riptide Percussion, and Spitfire Percussion. He is also regularly called on to adjudicate at various marching, concert, jazz, and solo/ensemble events. His professional affiliations include Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Percussive Arts Society, National Association for Music Education, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Florida Music Educators Association, Florida Bandmasters Association and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Mr. Wright is an official educator and endorser for Innovative Percussion, Inc. and Evans Drumheads. Mr. Wright is also a member of the Gateway Church music team, where he worships on piano, bass, drums, and vocals. He resides in Clermont, Florida with his wife, Gina, and his two sons, Aidan and Lucah.
Jennifer Brame, Music / Visual Instructor
Ms. Jennifer Brame is the woodwind technician at South Lake High School in Groveland, Florida. Ms. Brame earned a degree in Saxophone music performance at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and a Master’s in wind ensemble conducting from Texas Tech University. She has studied saxophone under Dr. Matthew McClure, and conducting under Dr. Michael Votta and Dr. Sarah McKoin. Ms. Brame has previously student taught at Frenship Middle School in Wolfforth, Texas, and has extensive experience teaching private lessons for saxophone students. She is currently working in the entertainment industry as a performer with the Walt Disney World Resorts, including acting, playing saxophone in Disney’s Encore orchestra, and singing in the yearly Candlelight Processional Christmas choir.
Al Venezio, Music / Visual Instructor
Mr. Al Venezio is the brass technician at South Lake High School in Groveland, Florida. Mr. Venezio graduated from Massapequa High School in Massapequa, New York, where he participated in the symphonic band, jazz band, and orchestra. The Massapequa High School Band consistently performed grade 6 literature at the New York State Music Assessment. After high school, Mr. Venezio spent some time in college before he was drafted into the United States Army. He then graduated from the Army-Navy School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia and spent two years playing trumpet in the U.S. Army Bands. He also saw duty on the ceremonial platoon where he played Taps for Vietnam War soldiers who were killed on the battlefield. He left the Army in 1970 and got married in 1971. He was a professional musician on Long Island, playing weddings and other functions until he moved to Florida in 1977. Over the years, Mr. Venezio has served the music education community as an active trumpet instructor, Band Boosters President, and clinician for numerous bands. Mr. Venezio just retired from the City of Clermont, where he was a fleet mechanic. He currently runs an active private brass instructional studio and his students regularly earn Superior ratings at Solo & Ensemble MPAs and earn many high chair placements in various honor bands. He is also an honorary member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
Julian Fajardo, Guard Instructor / Designer
Mr. Julian Fajardo is the Guard Instructor at South Lake High School in Groveland, Florida. His previous experience includes performing with the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps in 2013, performing with WGI Independent World groups Orlando Visual in 2012 and Fahrenheit World in 2011, and performing with Bartram Trail High School up until 2009. He has also worked in the entertainment business with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Walt Disney World Resorts, Nickelodeon Suites & Hotels, and Universal Studios Orlando Resorts. Julian is also highly experienced in costume and dancewear design and construction. He has worked with other guard programs, including Dr. Phillips High School, Celebration High School, and Eustis High School. He is thrilled to be a part of the program and he intends to bring out the potential of our members and to create a professional performer mindset for the seasons to come.
Sarina Virdell, Guard Technician
Ms. Sarina Virdell is the Guard Technician at South Lake High School in Groveland, Florida. She graduated from Lake Minneola High School in 2016 where she was a part of the marching color guard and winter guard program all 4 years of high school. After graduating, she got her first guard teaching position working with Northside Christian School as a weapon line technician. Later in the season, she worked with their middle school guard program. Both the middle school and high school guard programs received medals in the 2017 FFCC Championships. Also, during the 2018 season, along with working for South Lake, she also got the opportunity to work with West Orange High School as a weapon line choreographer and instructor. She is currently going to the University of Central Florida online to pursue a degree in English and hopes to get back into spinning with an independent guard this upcoming year.
Denis Rivera, Percussion Technician
Mr. Denis Rivera is a Percussion Technician at South Lake High School in Groveland, Florida. He graduated from Lake Minneola High School in 2016, where he was a part of the marching percussion and indoor percussion programs throughout all four years of high school. He comes from a family of musicians, and has experience with all facets of percussion, including marching and non-marching percussion instruments. He is currently pursuing a biology degree at Valencia College, where he is studying to become an optometrist.
Lucas James, Percussion Technician
Mr. Lucas James is a Percussion Technician at South Lake High School in Groveland, Florida. He has been teaching music since 2012 and working with high school bands since 2016. He specializes in percussion, guitar, and rhythm section. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education at Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida.
